Sport seat question

I want to change my seats to sport seats. I want manual seats with the release lever on both sides of the seat. What year Porsche's did these seats come in and what models. I want to cover them in brown leather with brown suede inserts.. Has anyone seen this combination?

I believe up to '84, in '85 center lock button and power height adjustment was introduced. I could be wrong but that is what I recall.

Release lever on both sides of the backrest came in '85. By then fully manual sport seats no longer existed. The only "exception" to that rule was the Clubsport seat, which was fully manual, but by using a std non-sport seat base.

You can modify an electric base to manual, but it is not that simple

Manual Seats

Hi Speedman,

I believe George is correct.

The Sport Seats introduced in '85 had levers on each side of the headrest but they are hideously heavy.....at least 50 lbs. apiece.

I have an '84 factory wide-body and purchased sport seat cores from my era ('80 - '84) and had them recovered. They're becoming rare and people are asking silly money for them but I love the weight, comfort and look of them.

Here are some pictures of a brown pair that I ran across....not mine but they'll give you an idea. I think there is only 1 tilt lever on them outboard on the headrest.

The newer heavier Sport Seats below:

[QUOTE=4flyboy;8172884]Hi Speedman,

Back in the day, I used to see that checkered pattern (pasha?) on a lot of 928s and I thought they were gaudy, but now I see them as kind of retro-cool.

I really wanted sport seats a few years back and went to a lot of trouble getting some, only to change back after a few weeks. I knew it would be harder to get in and out of the car to preserve the leather on the left driver-side bolster, but I ultimately found them uncomfortable. I seemed to sit higher too - I figured because of the seat bolsters, but I'm not too overly big (6', 200 lbs, 36" waist). Maybe there was something else about the frames that caused it. In any case, my advice would be to sit in a few before you go too far.

That seat:

is a '74-80 seat.

This seat:

is an 81-84 sport seat.

As to transforming a std seat to a sport version, it can be done with the '85-on seats. See here:

The factory sport seats in my '84 are very disappointing compared to the later ones. They provide no meaningful lateral support. The earlier ones actually look much more supportive, which is good to learn since I'd like to change mine out in favor of more support but I don't want the weight of the later model seats.
