Other then GPS, any use for a Palm pilot with my Porsche?

Other then GPS, any use for a Palm pilot with my Porsche?

I was curious if mybe their was some palm program that can be beneficial to use that pertains to the P-car?

I was thinking maybe a listing of part numbers, suspension set-up's I don't know! Anything?

You could use it to add up all the money that you spend on it, so you have a real-time running total of how screwed you are

You can use it between the jack stand and the torsion tube to help prevent slippage.

Depending on the OS it may make a good wheel chuck for certain years of 911s.

Maybe you can play MP3s on the thing.

Is it not manly to to you (porschenut) the use of a palm pilot ?

Sorry I actually like being organized. (ok maybe not, but I had to spend my best buy gift certificate on something)

Is your car new enough to have OBD-II ?

Duct tape it to your dash and watch your A/R!

I use a freeware mileage/maintenance program on mine.

I also purchased some Longacre software that makes it a nice/cheap DIY laptimer for DE events - mount the Palm solidly somewhere within reach, rig up a "button" to the Palm cover and tap as you drive by a fixed object. You can also track laptimes for up to 5 cars with the software too if you're spectating.

The laptiming software also has a good notes section so you can record suspension setups, tire pressures, etc.

The Longacre stuff is the only decent stopwatch/laptimer I could find on the market ... cool stuff.

I think you can even download it for a 30-day eval for free ... to decide if you want to spend the $ to own it.

I keep unit conversion programs, mitre saw angle calculators, and XLS records of my cars on mine.

Mapopolis is very useful with or without GPS - maps of the US on your Palm.

I've always wanted to install a pyrometer on the serial port and develop a very intelligent tire pyrometer, but really, who has time?

Finally, it's a great excuse to install a MegaSquirt EFI system, too. Then you can program your car on the fly with your palm pilot. Don't forget to watch the road.

I have a car minder app. on mine. but I find the paper note pad easier cause I don't always carry the palm when getting gas & stuff.
I do have all my numbers of my car and info list upgrades ect.. in a spread sheet on the palm.
If you do do this I would also recommend getting a nifty program called strip. Which requires a password in order to see the info.

Nope. Real men have no use for yuppy gadgets. Real men have grease under their finger nails and blood on their knuckles. I'm a yuppy with a tool belt so I know these things.

Yeah, I'm with Nut. The whole point of a 911 is the mechanical directness of the experience. Want to use an onboard Palm? Get a 996.
