soundproofing....yes or no
My 73 has lost about 150 lbs going through the RS conversion...battery box,.seats, old interior sound-deadening, replacing steel with glass...etc. The 3.0 going into the car has lost it's ac and heater blower, and replaced the '79 cat and crossover exchangers with SSIs and a 2-into-1 stock exhaust. It is getting a very light weight carpet after coming back from the painter. I asked the guy making my carpet about using a light-weight material over the rear seat (rear seats are gone) area.. and shelf....underneath his carpet...to quiet the engine noise. His only suggestion was to use the sheets of Dynomax, Anybody have any other suggestions. I want to keep it as light as possible...and may just insulate the engine compartment side and put only the carpet on the "people" side.

I removed all my interior soundproofing including that big lump under the rear seats. All I have back there now are the two little bottom cushions glued to the floorpan and the normal engine-compartment soundproofing slab, plus light carpeting and substantial floormats, the latter of which come out for DEs. Seems fine to me, with SSIs and a Fabspeed "muffler"...

Hmm, I think I'd use the engine side sound/heat pad. From what I've heard on the board the heat from the engine compartment can be pretty hot in the rear seat area. Seems like the rear soundpad in the engine compartment would keep the heat off of the metal in the seat area, and there is a lightweight engine pad floating around here somewhere.
