14 inch tire choices?

I have a 1970 911E with the original 14 inch Fuchs wheels. Currently I have some very bald, and definitly inspection failing 195/70 HR 14s on their. These tires are definitly too short and have caused the speedo to be off.

Are there are good tires that I can use with these wheels? Should I consider using smaller profile tires and lowering the car? Right now the car just looks funny, the current tires just don't fill out the wheel wells very well...

thanks,

britt

I have a '70 T with the same 14" Fuchs wheels. The PO had these Michelin 185 R 14 tires which are rather tall and, in my opinion, look right and fill up the wheel well.

OK. Since mine are mostly new and I don't drive the car all that much, I expect they will last a while. I haven't looked in the market for what would be available. If you find something, I would like to know for future reference. Thanks.

Here's what they should have come with OEM:
185/75 14 which are still available

You can do your own calculations here:

Cheers,
Joe

Joe, where did you get the 185/75 14 number? That doesn't seem right, if it were my 195/70 tires would be just right, and they seem too small and back when the car ran there was a definite issue with the speedo being correct...

my spare just says 185 without any profile number...

I was trying to show you that they still make that size, but you'll need to punch #s yourself on that link.

If you compare the diameter of that tire on that Miata link with a 185/70 15 or a 205/55 16 or 225/50 16, they're all about the same.

Joe
