Flat 6 seizure - rare?

Searching the web and here I find few articles about this.

I found this

Can't rotate my engine... seized?

But it wasnt seized.

Im wondering b/c an acquaintance told me after working on 911's and volkswagens for many years he had never seen a seized flat 6/4.

This true? Im sure it happens but is it that rare?

Never heard of it.
You don't have engine coolant that can leak into the cylinders, so unless you leave the intake ports open to the environment and outside you don't get water into the cylinders that can rust them solid.
On top of that the cylinders from 74 onward are aluminium.

911 engines will seize. I had one in 1982 and rebuilt it. A real pain to free up.

Yea but it appears to be pretty rare. Another Porsche guy never having heard of it and he has 2.5 currently.

So the tech I talked to was somewhat accurate. Interesting.

Roblav how did you free yours up?

A friend had debris from somewhere get into a main bearing (or maybe rod bearing) oil line/feed. Things overheated on the Mid-Ohio track. When he recognized spiking oil temperatures he pitted and stopped the engine. When he tried to restart the crank wouldn't turn.

I wasn't careful enough about a VW I left out in a field. Water got in through the carb (this was a race setup, not the stock air filter)and into whichever cylinder (s) had an intake open. Iron ring and iron cylinders. I eventually was able to break things loose with careful application of lots of penetrating oil in the cylinders and careful rocking of the crank - first a tiny movement, then a bit more at a time. It would run (but not well) even.

Freed by using a hammer and a 2 by 4. Rotated crank and whacked the cylinders.
