What are these called?

Howdy folks,

I'm getting the parts together to mount my 28 row brass oil cooler and I'm wondering what these are called. I can't find them on the pelican site.

just in case you are wondering, i used the bigger rubber mount from an smog pump to mount the top. it is alittle bigger and on my car, made it a bit easier to install. i let me use my non factory home depot bottom mount easier. i dont know why. better reach? it just worked out.

Grinding Gears,

I'm not sure of the correct name for the rubber mounts, but I do know you'll require 3.

I'll be very interested in how you go with the installation. Ive just taken delivery of a 28 bar brass cooler myself and have not yet fitted it to the car. Spoke to the supplier about the mounting hardware (which was not supplied) and he said that I will need to manufacture the brackets etc myself. The supplier has kindly offered to forward 3 mounts to me free of charge with my next order.

As I have no instructions and it will be difficult for me to get access to another 911 with similar fitment, I would appreciate it greatly if you could post how you went about it and what brackets etc you fashioned.

We can then compare success of the installation and cooling results.

What model 911 are you fitting the cooler to? Are you currently experiences temperature issues or just looking to start some track work?

I'm glad you responded, I saw an older thread that mentioned using a home depot "L" bracket to mount the cooler. Sounds like you did the same, maybe it was you who posted that info...?

Anyway, did you bolted or weld the bracket on the side on the car? What size did you use? 6 by 6 incher?

Stupid question: It not necessary to move the horns unless you install the carrera cooler fan, correct? I hope that's the case...less work for me.

Sheldon,

I would be happy to share how it goes, although it probably wont be for another couple weeks. I've searched older threads and I dont remember finding a step by step description of how to install the BRASS cooler. NOTE: There is a great write up on the pelican tech section describing the Carrera cooler install.

The cooler is going on an '83 SC that currently has a t-bone external cooler.

The reason it's going on: the hotter summer months and LA traffic.

I drive up the 405 (terrible traffic) about twice a week during the summer months and have experienced temps up to 240ish (just below the top white tick). However at 85+ and 10 mph traffic I can't ask much more of the setup I currently have.

I'm fairly confident the brass (heat sink properties) should keep the oil temps below 230. I can't wait to test it out.

FYI: Day to day driving my oil temp sits perfectly horizontal.

if you are talking to me, i actually went to a OSH hardware store. i picked up various brackets. about $15 dollars worth. i ended up using a "L" bracket that may be used for some corner brace. it was grey galvanized coated. hell it could have been for anything, i dont know. i only cut it and bent it once. i basically twisted one leg to make it parallel with the ground so it could be drilled for the two bottom rubber bumper things that you have in your picture. then i trimmed both legs to fit. i used the existing blind nut that is on our cars leftover for the trombone cooler attachment point. it is covered up with gunk and undercoat, but if you look in you truck area, you will see it from that side easy. then all it took was a new M8 bolt to secure it. i added a small lag bolt that i covered with silicone to keep the thing from rotating. but it probalby wasnt needed because the top rubber mount going through the headlight bucket is damn sturdy. hell you have the trombone cooler right? you will see the bottom nut easy, because you have to take it off! have fun and happy cooler driving!

Phillip,

Your temps seem to be running at about the same as mine and I too currently have a t-bone cooler.

From what "Unfixed" quotes, seems that the installation shouldn't be too difficult. Will also have a look at the tech section of this site to get some more insight.

Not to be the ultimate cheapskate but thos puppies lookmlike the mounts that vw/audi use around the fuel pump and radiator areas and cost about 1/2 that!
