Replacing front clip in early 911?
Hi all,
I have a host of issues with my 72, not the least of which is that it got clobbered at some point, and very poorly rebuilt. I have a couple of other issues...I have to replace the rear deck and rear seat wells, which are rusted out. I have a replacement rear deck, and it should be fairly easy for someone handy with a welder to do the seat wells. Here's the thought though...do I go the route of fixing the rust, and replacing the front clip, or just keep looking for a roller to work on? I'd LOVE to bring a 911 back to great condition, instead of giving up on it. So...the question remains...how tough is it to replace the front clip in the 911? Is it a royal pain in the ass, or is it a relatively straightforward procedure to line it up and cut it? Thoughts? Thanks in advance. mike

Doing a clip is a huge amount of work.
You should seriously consider buying Shuie's '73 tub and just moving everything over.

I'd really like a 72 tub though, because of the oil tank. It *is* supposed to be a competitive race car, you know. Anyone driven both that can tell me the handling differences?

I've owned and driven both, similarly configured as RS style track cars and couldn't detect a difference due to weight distribution.

That's good to know Tech...thanks. I've cross-posted the same question on the racing forum.
