how do you remove rear reflector on 82?
Can anyone tell me how to remove the rear reflector on a 82 without breaking the fastners? The one on the car isn't bolted on, it looks like it's attached with some type of factory clips.
Thanks for any help. Bill

I think you're going to have to do it the old fashioned way, go from behind and bend the metal clips. When you're done, you should be able to rebend the clips back and reuse them.

THE... way to do it, (it's a PITA) is to remove your muffler, then the heat shield plate. There is a removable access panel that is held down by the same screws that hold the heat shield. Remove this and you have access to the back of the reflector as well as your deck lid hatch...

EDIT: Oh yea, I also had the bumper off so I would have side stepped the problem if I didn't put it back on before I put the heat shield back on, but... you might need to loosen up the bumper and slide it back a bit to get those heat shield screws back in. It is a tight fit. On my car they were actually just under the bumper or right at the line. I was amazed at what a hassle it was to get to this thing. But be very carfull, the originals will cost ya and they are pretty fragile. The replacements are pink. ![]()

If you don't do it like Mike and I suggest, you seriously risk breaking it. Then you still need to get to the back to put in another one. If yours is in good shape, I would recommend NOT doing the pull and tug method!!
Good Luck!! ![]()

Use a heat lamp to soften the plastic somewhat. This can reduce the possibility of it shattering.
