HELP!!! Rear shock problem
HELP! My new bilstein's don't fit my new (used) alu trailing arms!!!!!!
As you can see from the below the threaded stud on to which the shocks are attached is not long enough, I can't attach a bolt to the end to hold the shock on. Are there differnet thickness mounts on some bilsteins? Do Boge or Koni have narrower mounts?  Bilstein prodcut number is F4-B46-0169-H0, trailing arms are 1974 aluminium type

Luke - the lower rear shock is held to the trailing arm by means of a hex-headed bolt (M12 x 1.5 x 85mm in earlier models then M14 x 1.5 x 85mm for '72-on models). It sounds as though the head of the bolt has sheared off leaving the threaded section seized into the trailing arm.
You will need to remove this & replace it with the correct hex bolt. Andy '69 911E------>R

Yep, what Andy said, mine were a bolt. Since mine's an '88 and Andy's is a 69, I'm betting all of the years in the middle are also. Good luck.

It gets worse, the stud on my Alu arm is just that a stud, not a broken bolt, the threads do not go all the way into the arm like a broken bolt would. BUt rather stop about 2mm from the arm itself, so it appear that what my stud is, is a bolt with the head seated inot the alu of the arm itself?????
I've attached a bad picture (camera battery died) but you can see the hexagonal "head" that is seated into the arm. Has anyone seen this before? How the hell do I rip this sucker out of my trailing arm without ruining it? I get the feeling I'm going to need new arms........

It might just be that it's not threaded along the entire length of the bolt. I would get a pair of vice grips on it and try to turn it to back it out.
