yes but without tracing the wire it's hard to say why it's there.......

You should trace each wire to its destination and unhook them, then seal. You do not want a bunch of wires hanging around to start trouble.

Somewhere in that harness is +12V DC from your batttery. If you cut that wire and it shorts somewhere to your chassis, you can have sparks or even a fire. As suggested, you should trace down where each wire is routed and remove it at the source.

The aluminum box is just the mounting frame - I pulled the release clips on the old unit then reversed the metal locks for the frame and took that piece out separately - then replaced it - I have more pix of my install if you need them -

Looks like you got a project going - but it looks possible - after I put my stereo in at got it working I have more hope for future projects - the last time I worked on the car - I was playing with the transmission and when I was out driving I knocked the shift rod out of the shift coupler and ended up driving home in 2nd - luckily I was only down the street -
