Anyone know of any major differences between the 2.0 motor from a 914-6 and the 2.0 used in the 911?
I know the exhaust is different. Thanks, Cliff

The 914-6 engine is basically a 1969 911T engine...

The 914-6 engine and the 911T engine ('69) are the same.

Cliff,
Yes, a 914-6 engine is basically the same as a ‘69T. There are some subtle differences. As you noted, the exhaust is different, including muffler. The heater air tubes are longer on the 914-6. The engine mount is very different – single bolt. The oil cooler is different (obviously) as the fitting points forward. The oil pipe from the engine is different. All of the perimeter tin is different (obviously). The S/N and Type # on the -6 is on top of the engine near the breather. The wiring harness is different. There are several differences in carb settings and emissions parts. The decal on the fan housing strap is different and is reversed. There are also some (unfortunate) similarities; They both use the cast, non-counterweight crankshafts. They both originally had the cast non-bushed rocker arms. They both use cast iron cylinders. What is your application? Best, Grady

I considered using the case to build a motor for a 911. It sounds like there are subtle differences that would make that undesirable. I suppose a better idea would be to reuse the case in a 914-6 or conversion to 914-6.
Thanks

Grady,
Thanks for the details. Obviously I oversimplified the comparison. Sherwood |

I would consider selling. It comes without the webers. I get the numbers for you.
Do you need just the case or the longblock? What do you think is a fair value for the motor or just the case? Thanks

Cliff,
What kind of 911 engine do you intend to build? The 914-6 case is not an ideal starting point for a hot or bigger displacement 911 engine. Do you have Wayne’s’ and Bruce Anderson’s books? How much 914-6 only stuff does the engine have? Please send me details and how much. gradyclay@hotmail.com Sherwood, Sorry, I wasn’t trying to upstage. I just try and pass on as much information as I can to the next generation and this seems to be a good forum to do that. Best, Grady
