How about not yanking our chains with sparsely worded nearly indecipherable msgs? That's the root of the problem.

Or did you leave a lot out of this?

Who bashed who? I think Timmins posted here once ever and it was rather enlightening.

I have had extensive email dealings with him and I get excellent answers every time. First rule is to make sure your questions are not already answered somewhere on his website. He is one of the most tireless workaholics I know. In addition to being a full-time professor at U. Del., he has more business than he can handle for his engine swaps AND he's a serious track junkie. I can barely find time to maintain my own car for a few DE's a year. So he is a busy guy. Ask him a question he hasn't already answered, make it clear and concise and you'll probably get a good answer. If it's something you can find out more easily here, you should post it here. I don't think he's really hurting for more business, but is always hurting for more time.

I'm going to have to agree with Richard here. Steve is a tireless workaholic and when he has received numerous questions that have already been answered on his site I can understand where he would be perceived as difficult.
The reality is that Steve answers probably close to a hundred questions weekly regarding the 3.6 conversion. (a conversion that he has paved the way for most on this site to easliy do.) The majority are yanking his chain and then they decide to piece the conversion together after they have picked his brain for all the information.
I've been at his shop when people on this site who have not bought either engine or conversion parts have called looking for tech support. I know that after a time this would grow old. Put his shoes on your feet.
I've known Steve for years and he has performed a lot of work on my car. I can't think of a straighter guy to deal with.

Anybody can have a bad day. It might be worth a phone call to see if he misunderstood anything you were asking. I love email, but Id almost always rather call someone when I have a question about technical stuff. Good luck.

I suppose perception is everything.
Knowing Steve and having had many e-mail conversations with him I doubt that it would have been worded as it was above. Clearly there are parts missing. If he said that you were requesting something urgently I belive you probably were. If you didn't like his advice regarding headers fine, but to continue a conversation with so and so said...Steve has his opinions based on experience.
Give us abreak and take your bashing elsewhere.

I’m going to regret this…

The experiences w/ ST have been extremely polar and well expressed. I have very little personal experience w/ him (two emails, non-tech), I don’t think it’s was enough to say that it was either good or bad. Regardless, I decided to do the legwork and the conversion myself, and it came out better than any ST conversion I’ve seen.

The conversion can be done by anybody, without a kit. The hardest part of the whole thing is figuring out what you need and you don’t need ST for that.

As I said, opinions about ST have been very polar, most love him or hate him. It is important that both sides are expressed so that others looking to perform a conversion can make an informed decision on going to ST or doing it themselves.

Yea somewhere here something went wrong, please remember that are you talking inside diameter or out side, I believe my b&b are 1 5/8 inside and 1 7/8 out side, so are you sure both of you are talking about outside or inside, and also when i was looking at headers ghl was was going to make me a set for the 3.6 with bigger inside diameter, they were using a smaller inside at the time, Timmins is a little frugle(spelling?) but arent we all, Steve spent sevaral long conversations over the phone with me tracking my problem, and yes I had to be promt when i spoke with him and on his time as this is one busy man, he was upfront with me when and the window of time I could talk to him about my problem. and I was with in that time frame, he does also likes for you to have done some research to have an idea what is going on, not saying you didnt, But im sure he gets tons of tire kickers ever day, Kevin

Steve Weiner.

Did he mix you up with someone else? Were you a previous customer or was this the first inquiry? I'm honestly asking, no flames here, either way.

If I received this as an email, I don't think I'd take it too seriously either. If you want a professional response, craft a bit more eloquent request for information.

just my opinion...ymmv.

Don't know either one of you so no judgement on my part. However, I'm curious what he means by "Urgent" and "Scramble now". Is this something you asked him to do or is this his take on your approach?

I have to admit the communication is a bit cryptic.

Timmins

I can say from experience that IF Steve reads your email and misinterpets it, it seems that an attitude does prevail. After a while of emailing Steve we both realized I am better off calling him. He did my conversion, because all I spoke with reccomended him as the 3.6 conversion authority. He did the work, and it turned out great. I have heat, I have a sweet exhaust note out of my 1 7/8's , as well as plenty of power and he has responded prompty whenever I followed up with a question. He has a incredible amount of knowledge of what he is doing and is an engineering prof to boot. Understand the type of personality he must have and if you want answers to your questions, perhaps you need to adjust your personality to work and play well with others. I am not attempting to piss you off or anyone else for that matter. These are the facts as I see them...just the facts.
Happy Motoring
