yeah, but 85K miles in 3 years can't be great on a car.

that means it was used on lot's of highway and long journeys... i used to do 100 000 km a year, a car can handle that these days ... it be more worried with a 5 year old car , with 20k on the counter, coz that means it wasn't driven regulary

It's a little closer to my price range now - not that I could afford it anyway.

Just seems like the 993's are holding their value better - I wonder what the longevity of the 996 block is like - being a water pumper it should run cooler, more consistent right?

LOLs. You're on the wrong side of the Atlantic. Quite common out here. I know a few friends that have purchased 996s in better condition with way lower miles for not much more.

Those earlier 996's are wet sump right? Isn't that inherentley bad for cars capable of high g forces? Maybe Porsche did something to counter that but I always though a sports car should be dry-sump.

I've been watching 993 and 996 prices lately. It seems as though any 996s below $35K (certainly 2000 and 2001) have had engine replacements or rear main seal leaks. But as long as you go into a deal fully informed (i.e., get a PPI), there seem to be some great deals out there.

Ive seen two really nice 996s with low miles go for mid-30s here in CA, the market is pretty ugly for those cars.

The miles wouldn't scare me much, especially if you change the car to a lower miles per year format. There's a lot of good miles left in that car.
We just turned 87,000 on my bride's 986, and in terms of reliability, it's like a Camry. Whole lot more fun to drive, though. ![]()
