CDI-MSD explain please
I have an MSD brand ignition (made by Autotronics out of El Paso, TX http://www.msdignition.com) in my 79 SC. The coil wire came loose and toasted the wire and burned the connection area near the connection. I replaced the wire with a temporary part from Checker and was able to get back on the road.
Question: Is this a CDI unit similar to the early 911’s and is this a unique coil? I want to replace the coil figuring that this episode wasn't good for it.

Go to the MSD website and see what they recommend for a coil to go with your particular MSD box. That way, you can't go wrong, plus the MSD coils are reasonably priced.

Not sure where your coil is located in a 79SC but Note the MSD "High Vibration" coil is the only one that they recommend can be mounted upside down.
