Oil/Filter Change Frequency??

It's Spring in Ohio and was wondering what I should do about oil that I have not changed since September? I've only put about 1,500 miles since then and am ready to change the oil, but was wondering what the experts say? I've heard that the oil additives break down and regardless of miles, your oil should be changed every 6 months? In the past when this has happened, I would not change the filter (thinking it only had 1,500 miles on it) but I've heard that that was not a good practice? What do you experts recommend??

I run synthetic in my Turbo.

I change the oil once a year. This year, I only put 3500 on the oil, but it gets changed anyway.

I change the filter every six months.

As far as I know--and I'm no expert either--the general feeling is that modern oils should be changed once a year at a minimum if you don't drive enough to make the mileage minimum. That, for example, is what Porsche recommends for our Boxster. As for filters, I think the equally general feeling is that you should put a new filter in every time you change the oil even if you change it every 50 miles. To not do so is like economizing by re-using a condom...

For 6 bucks, why not change the filter? It can only help to ensure that you have the cleanest oil circulating in your 6 grand (or more) motor.

Thanks guys. I also heard that changing the filter more frequently is a good idea. Thinking about attacking some oil leaks, so I'll probably change it soon anyway?
