Would you call this a "sleeper"?

http://adcache.collectorcartraderonline.com/10/3/6/63214236.htm

If the link works you should see a 1979 SC with a Turbo motor. I'm wondering if it would be considered a "sleeper," or just "crazy"?

A SC/Carrera bodied turbo is my current dream car. Its the perfect platform for a yellowbird clone. I'd want a very thorough PPI before I put any money on the table, but that could be a lot of car for $17k

It's kind of a sleeper. 911's don't generally look slow, and to the uninitiated a 911 with that big ol tail out back must be fast or a turbo. Your average person doesn't know the difference between an early car, a car with SC/Carrera flares, and a turbo body.

I gotta say though, if the car is really clean that will be a very nice car. There's a reason that Ruf built it's yellowbird on the Carrera platform instead of the 930 platform.

Any car painted bright red is not a "sleeper". That car says "wanna race?" even with the SC flares.

Would I call a bright red 911 with shiny wheels and a big ass wing a sleeper? Probably not, no

You might surprise an unweary 996 driver, but not anyone who hangs out here, given the various powerplants that are stuffed into various lowly and not so lowly bodies.

oh, I forgot about the question. No way is a red 911 with polished fuchs and a whale tail a sleeper.

My '72 is a brown narrow body and looks bone stock. People still try to race me at almost every light. Its hard to make a sleeper out of one of these cars

I don't know, I think around here it would be a sleeper. Every punk in a honda with a coffee car strapped on the muffler seems to want to race me. I don't bother for many reasons, one of them being that many of them probably are as fast or faster than my 911. However, I think they know what "turbo" means on the back of a 911, so without the badging or the widebody...

There's NO WAY it has 450HP - it still has CIS. Maybe 350. Still, it could be a fun car.

That was my impression as well. Seems overpriced to me as well... A real turbo can be had for not much more than the asking price, but maybe there is some wiggle room built into that price.

Also, what gives with the miles? If my math is right then someone actually replaced the motor when when the car only had 50,000 original miles on it. 70k chassis miles minus 20k new engine miles = 50k miles...

I guess if I ran across it at a stop light I would consider
it a sleeper.
The car looks good but 450HP may be stretching the truth
a bit. You really have to powder the butt of CIS engin to get
450, I've only seem (2) CIS cars in that range ever.
Would be a fun car to play with!!

I'd put the horsepower at "around 300".
The CIS doesn't give it away as much as the stock intercooler.

No 911 is a sleeper. Some are just a bit deceptive.

"Canadian HP"

Sounds more like Cool Collar HP or Ricer HP or any aftermarket product which claims 10-15% HP increase (did you ever notice how its always 10-15%-no more, no less?).

i think the "tornado" had the audacity to claim more on the impala ss in its infomercial... that's the little turbine blade thingy that you stick in the intake pipe? the dyno they had it on used an old school analog sweep meter to show HP. how cute.

i know what you mean though... addititves here and there are killers. i got 10hp just with a set of autozone 'type R' floor mats.

nope.... no 911 is a sleeper. A VW can be a sleeper.

A 1300 badge on the decklid and quarter-mile performance of 13.40 seconds at 98mph ........ not too shoddy.

kmhemi i'm not sure if a slant six e body is a sleeper, but that's definitely a cool car. what color/interior do you have? any odd options?

our cars are pretty much the ultimate unsleepers...
