I'd be worried about the paint under that bra if its never been removed inthe 7 years he's owned the car.

You can get it less than $13K with no major issues and decent paint and body it's a deal. rjp

PS the speedometer has been swapped out. Supposed to be 85MPH deal. Check all reciepts closely, look at the mileages recorded. Good possibility the mileage is incorrect.

Obviously, there are some cosmetic issues that can add up to $s. He mentions 'dash cover'. Is it the cheapo slap on top cover or a real replacement dash pad? Figure $900 (dash pad, gaskets & PITA) if not & you want to fix the crater above the vents. Also the seats. Replacement leather ~ $1K. Puffy vents - $200 - $300 for replacements (similar - not exact). Are the tires the same make & model? POs have an irritating habit of miss-matching them. He says all Michelin but are they the same flavor? How's the rest of the paint? Any respray areas? Remember: A head stud check will be mandatory!!!! Figure $300 - $400 for a good PPI - compression, leakdown, gaskets, oil & labor. So, my take? Figure $2K - $3K to finish the restoration- without paint. Ian

It's so risky to buy a 911 off of eBay...

I bought my 86 Cab off of ebay last year...only 64K miles and I paid well under $20K.
This has been an awesome car for me and Ive put 30K miles on it with no major issues, just maintanance. The PO had to sell due to personal problems. It may be risky to buy off of ebay, but if you can get to the car and inspect it, you may find a great great deal. Regarding this car, it looks ok... do inspection as advised above. |

Not for sale. Looking back at the post it does look like a proposition. Sorry about that.. Would consider a trade for a comparable value 69-73 RS clone though. I'm so far into mine if I ever sold it outright it would be at a huge loss. Dunno what I'd replace it with so I'm just gonna sit. The one you're considering might be worthwhile if it can be obtained for under $14K even after transportation costs. Besides the chip in the fender the car looks fairly solid. Do check the mileage closely though by tracking the reciepts. rjp

When I was looking for a Porsche, seemed like California had the market cornered. Texas is a drive.

It is risky to buy any car sight unseen with no PPI and such. eBay is just another marketplace, and all of the general car buying rules should be followed; see the car and have a reputable shop do a thorough PPI before any money changes hands. Just communicate with the seller and inform him/her of your requirements. If they balk, then you walk. Simple. BR, Kurt |
