Makes me want to sell my car and buy a vintage racer. Really.

As usual, great shots Eric!
I had a great weekend, turned a personal best of 1:46.6 (faster than my old 911) and finished 8th of 39 in the final race! Mike, you wouldn't be sorry. Vintage racing is, as they say, as much fun as you can have with your clothes on!

Fantastic. We have HSR in a month at Fontana. But, it won't be as picturesque as that.
There is something to racing the vintage cars that is in a way provincial and yet romantic. I was at the POC Cup races yesterday with the smattering of GT3s and other exoctics including 2 Ferraris (new). While it's fun to be around these cars, I can't identify with them. If I were to get another track car, it would have to qualify as a vintage racer. I'm telling you, you can have as fun in a well sorted 2.0 as a 3.8. This is only my opinion, of course. POC is sort of the antithesis of vintage racing, although there were some great early 911s there. John Dilger comes readily to mind. Last edited by Zeke; 05-17-2004 at 08:42 AM.. |

Awesome, Eric. Those darned outlaw 356's are, in my view, some of the meanest looking race cars I have ever seen. And some of the fastest too.

What a great day, it was a pleasure to meet Mark & all the other Pelican that showed up at the swap meet. To bad the batteries went dead in my camera. Glad Eric had it covered with amazing pics.

How many race tracks are there in the greater Seattle area, and what cities are they in? My inlaws live up there and I'd like to check out some track events while we're vacationing.
Thanks |

Great photos. That 910 had to be the class of the show. I kind of worry seeing irreplaceable pieces of history out there "racing", though. I guess that's the chance one must take to truly enjoy a classic such as this. Sitting silent in a museum just wouldn't be right, and it sure is a treat to see them running. I just hope those fortunate enough to own such a machine are carefull with them.

Jeff, Mike Malone drives the 910 very hard, frequently sliding sideways through turns. I ask him if he was driving full out at Rennsport/Daytona and he just chuckled and said "pedal on the floor". It was no different this weekend at our local club event - he was flying!
