Back on the track (sort of)

Did the lead/follow at Fontana today.

After an ardous month of metal/bodywork, I put the car back together awaiting back ordered rockers, etc. My next phase was gong to be going thru the suspension and upgrading the t-bars to stiffer specs.

Well, I found out today just how badly I need this upgrade. Not only that, I popped a sway bar link like a recent poster. So, needless to say, the car wallowed thru the corners something awful. I didn't embarass myself as a Pelican and kept up with some decent machines. I had a very powerful new Mercedes sedan behing me most of the time except for the slower (40-50mph) corners. He didn't have the stuff there. (Might have been the sorry ass line he took most of the time ) He was on me like a duck on a June bug thru the big turn @ 95mph (or better, I quit looking). That was all we had room for w/o running over the lead cars.

Only about 20 cars/trucks total today as opposed to 80 yesterday. That's Lars' in the blue, the Zekester, TerryH in a clean SC or Carrera (I didn't look) and a couple of 996's. Nostatic was in front of the Boxster, but I didn't see him take off for the track. In fact, I didn't see him for the rest of the day. Hope he and Calvin were OK.

Looks great!

In that color, I start to picture it as a potential 'Scruffy Clone.'

It is Scruffy's coupe-brother.

Milt, Calvin and I were in the stands watching the heat, and I took my time wandering back becuase they said they were running late when we signed up. When we got close, we saw the group of people going to their cars and taking off!. Calvin and I ran full speed, got around the fence, jumped into the car, then got into the lineup about 15 or 20 cars back (behind the truck and a Passat). The truck got held and the Passat did OK, but I could smell his brakes about halfway through. I got up tight on him a few times in the corners...but I would hope so.

By the time we rolled off the track Calvin had enough heat and curves for the day and wanted to head home.

That was the best $20 I've spent in a while. The "lead and follow" definitely lived up to its billing. I was not ready for those first 3 or 4 pretty hot laps and had to do a little catching up. It seemed we slowed as a group once our pace truck got it's own pace car. Not sure what happened there exactly.

Pleasure meeting Milt, Lars and Nostatic. I was sandwiched between the Mercedes and the Viper. Both were capable... well, compared to my novice track skills anyway. My first time with my car on any track and I was pretty cautious initially. I bet we ran 10-15 laps. Did anyone count? Hit 115mph on the big oval occasionally. Fun Day for sure!

Here's a couple pics of Sundays Lead/Follow field.
