Is it possible to retrofit 996 climate control on older 911?

I have an early model 911 and I am about to add a/c and I saw a 996 climate controller on ebay. How difficult would it be to retrofit this controller to a simple a/c setup? Right now I have a std center console with the temp and blower controls.

Why would you want to go though the hassel? I think it would look very out of place.

You might be right. It was just a thought.

IF I was going to do anything like that, I'd go for the parts from a later air cooled 911.

But... you are kinda killing the idea of the early light wt. cars... I know it is fierce in Tejas... esp. bad in E. Tx. with the humidity. Maybe another car for summer? A 993 or Boxster? 964?

As much as I like my 88, I have to shake my head when I look at how the a/c was implemented, even considering its age, it's just odd as heck compared to other cars (BWW) that I have owned from the same time frame. I love the quirky nature of 911s, except when it comes to HVAC. It's even more confusing considering Porsche's engineering capablities.
BTW, sitting on 635/LBJ in Dallas in July can seriously change the way you think about historical significance or weight...you just want to stop sweating through your clothes !
Good Luck

Yeah, even in CA there's days where driving a non AC car doesn't make sense unless you're a Spartan. I'd say if you can keep moving at a good clip, that's one thing. But, we don't move in SoCal anymore. We poke along at 15-30mph on the freeways all day. I can't imagine E. TX.
