I really need help asap. I just pulled all the fuch wheels off the 87 targa, to send them to Al Reed to be polished and realized that I have 2 different sized front rims. I have
1. 6 x 16" 3. 7 x 16" rims There was a 7 x 16 and a 6 x 16 on the front. I dont know how I never noticed. What is suppose to be on there oem? Are the 2 rear 7 x 16's correct? Any good Ideas? Does anyone have a good rim for me to complete the set and have Al do his polishing magic? Should I be considering wider rears?...if so what can fit with no rub? Thanks in advance guys. I am not real happy now. ... delay in the polishing...and driving! Ken

Why don't you measure the rears? Maybe the other six is back there.

I think he indicated he did that - he has one 6" rim and three 7" rims. The OEM rims would have been 6s in the front and 7s in the back. I'd buy a pair of 8s for the back, use your best pair of 7s in the front, and sell the extra 6 and 7.

I went with 6's and 7's for a while, I got sick of the big gap and bought some 8's for the back and am very pleased with the look now. Take waveys advice.

Yes I have 1- 6" and 3-7" wheels.
Anyone have 2 8" for the rears? Also..... do my tire sizes change with moving up to 7 &8's from the original 6& 7 combo?

With 7's and 8's you'll want to use the same tires that you have now (assuming they are right)
That would be 7's on the front with 205 55 16's and 8's on the back with 225 50 16's. You can fit larger tires on those rims, but I'd avoid that temptation. You'll actually get better handling characteristics with the smaller tires on the larger wheels. And just in case you don't realize what you are getting into... 8's and/or 9's are pretty pricey.

what should my expectation be for $'s for 2 8 x 16 wheels? I need a decent set to send to Al reed for refinishing.

You could also buy another 6" which would be very cost effective, and sell one of the 7's.

John. I will let you know what the outcome is. I am kind of stuck right now. I will take a pic if the wheel. FYI- it has no marks. very good anodizing and minimal fading of the black.....could take a respray.
Anyone know of some 8's for sale?

8s can run as high as 4-500 EACH.....BTW....there are two different 8 inch Fuchs. The 911 one and the one that came on the 951 (944 turbo), the offset is an inch more inboard on the 951 model.
The 911 has more of a "dish" on the outside. The early 911crowd likes them so they can get more wheel under the narrow body. They ALL come with serial numbers on the inside.....

Mike . Thank you for the offset info. I had not realized. I will be sure to get the #'s ...and therefor the 911 wheels.

I think what Mike is telling you is that you want to get the 23.3mm offset wheels, which are the ones you want.

BTW, "23.3mm" will be stamped in the inside of the wheel next to the actual size.

Actually, either of the two 8" wheels will work in the back of a 911. THe 951 wheel will just sit more inboard.

Well, it all really depends on your ride height. I was just trying to steer him in the "safe" direction. I realize that both will work.

I never stop learning, and no one person knows everything about these cars. I guess that's why this site exists.
