Porsche Crest Got Aga Blue or Ultra Blue pics?

I think Aga Blue is dark and introduced in '68; paint number 6608, paint code 310. Ultra Blue is paint number 6827, code 323 (also known as R5013 as special order color??).

Different markets had different names for the same color (British, German, American, Japanese...), so it all gets complicated.

Thanks for any help, Jens

Jens, Aga Blue is one of my all time favorite factory colors. A friend of mine had a car done in Aga Blue back in 1966 ! It was a special wishes color. Years later he had a 1978 SC factory painted in Aga Blue. It originated as a 356 color. I have no info Ultra Blue, but for me, Aga Blue does it. Doug Kubany

Oh yeah, my error. 6608 is a 1966 number (that's what the 66 means). Doh! I just gotta see that color now!

I'm just guessing, but Ultra Blue sounds like it's very bright.

Jens,

Aga has far more Grey in it. Ultra blue is very close to a dark Navy. I have the factory Glasurit book for this period...but no scanner....sorry.

Ultra blue shows in the Glasurit book as a 1969 color, as it does in my Porsche paint chip book. Aga shows as 1967 color in the Glasurit book.

Regards,
Eric

Thanks Eric. The 68 in the 6827 is the date code that the early cars had. The funny thing about the paint codes and numbers, aside from the many names for the same color, is that my reference books often show different numbers too. Some Targas had differents number as well. WTF?! It would be good to get the data all in the same place for a good ol' look-see; a comprehensive list.

Jens

ps. there was also paint supplied to Porsche from the Herbol and Lechler paint companies.

Jens,

Personally I think the date codes are screwy......my dad was in independent car importer in the 60's and I've got his old P car price lists, which included the colors available.

According to these...Ultra Blue wasn't available till the 69 model year....but they started painting these cars in 68....so is that where they 6827 comes in?????

Same for Gulf blue....my 67S is that color (code 6603), but that wasn't available in 66 (according to my info!).

Regards,
Eric

That's what I mean, it's whacky!

Paternie's Red Book shows Gulf Blue as a standard color for '66. Ultra Blue is shown as #R5013 and as a Special Order color for '66. Peter Morgan too. Dr. Johnson shows the same, but adds the 323 code.

Perhaps they were supplied by Herbol or Lechler in the early years?

My 66 came Aga Blue originaly and after I sanded down the three other colors I went with silver. The Blue remided me too much of the blue bug my family had when I was poor white trash. Now I am just white trash.

Jens,

I understand the other suppliers, but the data that Porsche puts out wouldn't include that info.....I am still gathering literature on all of this.....hopefully I can grab more stuff at the next LA lit show to get some kind of conclusion.

Eric

Interestingly enough it's right on the Kunstharzlack plate on the door jamb. The paint supplier is noted as a letter on the early cars (G, H, or L), and a number on later cars, 1, 2, or 3. But I don't know how the numbers relate to the paint supplier. My '68 shows an "L" and my '80 has a "2". I don't know what the 2 means.

Note I also have the stainless lids - it's the deluxe model. I'm hoping to upgrade them for some 18 inch ones though - and perhaps lower it a little.

I haven't had it long but it seems to use more oil than my SC - about 1500 litres.
