The 993 driving experience
Got to drive a (very) low mileage '95 C-4 this past weekend. Life may never be the same with my '84 without some serious upgrades.

Drive a V-ram C2 and you'll really be sold.

Been there, done that. I was tainted though. I got my 993 after owning a C2Turbo. The 993 is still by far the best looking 911 although it felt like a heavy pig as far as power. Im putting a 993 engine in my 72, so we will see how that does.

I think it was the "solidness" of it that I liked very much. (That and the styling. I would agree, the 993 is the best of the "true" 911 style. Well, maybe the 4S...)
Funny how we forget how a new P car feels and over time it's funny how wear and tear start to make insidious changes to the overall experience. The owner also has a 71 (?) with a race-prepped 3.2 and he said it blows the 993 away. I believe he said there's something like 1,000 lbs. of weight difference between the two.

I did a DE this weekend and my 993 performed like a CHAMP! Most of the NoVA gang were having problems with oil temps, soft pedal, yada yada. My 993 just performed perfectly - oil temps stayed reasonable, brakes were amazing at all speeds, handling was great and my Fabspeed MaxFlows sing! As much as I want to get another earlier 911, I just don't think any of them will give me as much pleasure and as few headaches as my 993.

The odds are in favor of the newer car though... |

It's worth noting that on this board we consider a 7- to 11-year-old car 'new.'

I really like the 993 (toss me a '98 C2S). If I ever part with my current toy, it seems I'd find a 993 in the garage.

It's tough to compare the technology in the 993 to a '70s car. Just from a pure design perspective, the 993 is going to be light-years ahead...

Or, as Rattlsnak has discovered, the early car and the 993 motor are 'two great tastes that taste great together.'

I guess manadatory reading during my lunch breaks the next few weeks is going to be Wayne's 101 projects book (bought it a couple of months ago and still haven't done anything more than browse through it!).
If I can't buy a 993 I can sure try and work on upgrading my 911 from it's current stock config.
