Does the WEVO shifter really only make sense if you have their coupler too?
I have been advised not to buy the shifter unless I get the coupler with it. Isn't the coupler just a smoother version of what we already have in the car? I have rebuilt my coupler and it's smooth and without slop.
I can't afford to get both and don't want to waste my money on just the shifter if the real benefit won't be had until I combine it with the coupler.

Save yourself some cash and cut a few inches off your stocker before you dump anything into the wevo setup
![]() The Wevo coupler has a much different design in the linkage than the stocker. I can't say whether it makes an improvment or not but others have seemed to like it. I've also heard people say that the Wevo setup was the best money they ever spent on their cars. Good luck. m.

In your case I would just go with the shifter. I bought both because I broke my stock coupler trying to rebuild it. You will love the shifter!!!

After rebuilding my coupler and adding a Porsche short shifter, Hayden at WEVO, said don't bother with their parts.
What a misleading statement from Hayden ![]() Later in the summer I tried a WEVO set up with just the coupler and shifter....for 30 seconds...... and came home and bought the WEVO. Save your pennys, they are both worth every penny for a 915 and a improvement over even a new Porsche set up. No matter what Hayden tells you! Best money I have spent on my car....which says a lot. |

I am trying to avoid spending $4,000 if I miss a shift from 5-4 (grabbing 2nd) or 4-3 (grabbing 1st).
I have been told that the Seine/Robotek is a huge step in that direction, the WEVO shifter is much better and the WEVO shifter, coupler, and gateshift is the ultimate. I don't have the coin for the third option. I don't mind the ergonomics or feel of the current shifter but will certainly welcome the improvements in that regard.

The shifter is worth the effort and money alone.
The coupler is a additional performance enhance. More so that you might think. |

I installed a wevo shifter with a stock coupler, worked great but
I later bought a wevo unit. Wevo setup is worth the money, just the shifter is a big step up!

I decided to get in touch with WEVO direct. Interesting conversation. They feel the gate shift is the biggest improvement and then the shifter. The coupler helps it all work smoothly. He thinks that a recently and properly rebuilt OEM coupler is pretty good but the biggest improvement is noticed (as far as the coupler is concerned) when you replace a worn OEM coupler with theirs.
After the conversation I decided that even though I have limited funds, I am not wasting my money by getting the shifter alone. As time and funds permit I will do the coupler and the gateshift. Apparently some have had success installing the gateshift without removing the tranny (it goes in through the bottom access panel).

Remember I also talked to Hayden at WEVO. He gave me the same advice which I think...with all due respect now....is bad advice.
The shifter is a huge improvement in feel on a 915. It has to be experienced to be believed. There is no comparison to the couplers...the WEVO is light years ahead in durability and design. I know as my new coupler was just as loose as my 180K mile coupler after only 10K miles. The WEVO internal gate is a b**** to get in the tranny without pulling it. Jerry Woods is the only one to do it on a regular basis last I talked to Hayden. While the internal gate may well be the hottest things since pancakes for reliability and durability in your tranny you won't feel very much and I would pass until you are doing a rebuild. YMMV but that is my experience to date. Last edited by rdane; 05-21-2004 at 12:04 PM.. |

I thought you meant that Hayden recommended not getting both the shifter or coupler after your short shift and coupler rebuild. Now I realize you were talking about just the coupler.
Basically improved feel is a luxury and reducing the chance for the 5-2 and 4-1 misshift is a necessity after a $7k rebuild. I spend accordingly. So if the coupler improves the feel but isn't the nuts and bolts behind reducing misshifts then I will start with a shifter and get the coupler down the road. Better yet I will try them back to back since I know of some folks with shift/coupler and some folks with shift/coupler/gateshift. After all what could possibly feel worse than a 915 (except the 901 ![]() About two weeks ago I was going to buy a Seine and didn't know what "budget" the $200 was going to come from. Now I am on the hook for $600. The slippery slope continues.......

Hayden recommended the gate kit and said there was no need for the coupler or shifter since I had just replaced both.
There may have been "no need" but the improvements of the WEVO shifter and coupler made a huge difference to me for feel. The internal gate I don't actually feel much IMO. Although I understand the design improvment internally and believe it is worth it. Quote:
The Seine is a good system just think the WEVO is better...actually the $400 better. The slippery slope? I have spent a coin or two on my car...some not very good investments, some a waste of money that you might not have expected. But the WEVO parts have been worth every penny and then some. Even if you have to force Hayden into taking your money ![]() Last edited by rdane; 05-21-2004 at 12:30 PM.. |

It's kind of refreshing not to have a salesman on the other end of the line.
Thanks for your input.
