Removing the Fire Maker
Does anyone know how much can be gained in HP and engine speed if you replace the distributor with a crank fire system. I think I remember that it takes about 8-12 HP to drive the distributor. I like the ease of use with the Electromotive crank fire system and am trying to justify the expense

I'm with Harry.
I don't know whether it is 1/100 hp or 1/3 hp ... but it only took 17 hp to turn the fan on a 917 engine at 8400 rpm!!! And, that was a LOT of air being moved! You will have to find another point or three to justify the purchase ... just don't expect any significant hp gains!

the HP comes from the increased accuracy of spark/timing with the crankfire.
