Yes, friday evening there was a documentary on James Dean on Dutch TV, and ..of course.. they all mentioned Jimmy's "reckless and immature" features amongst the other ones, the implication being that his character traits killed him, fast driving etcetera...
The truth appears (ref. previous lengthy threads on this forum...) to have been more related to the position of the sun, the layout of the road junction, the (understandable) mistake of the other driver, and (LOOK AT THE PICTURE!) the relative sizes of the vehicles involved... In a country, mid-fifties, where no one would ever expect to see such a small, ground-hugging, metallic-silver bullet come straight out of the sun, no wonder the other drive (probably) never even saw that lovely Porsche car. Destiny...and the myth...

not just size, but also the fact that the 550 had the structural integrity of a beer can....
that road/intersection is still dangerous. I drove by in my boxster a year or two ago, and it was dangerous to walk along the shoulder and look at the old intersection - there are a lot of speeding semis. ![]() |

And his passenger lived? I know the other driver did and just died recently.

the intersection where the collision took place has been changed completely, the same accident could not happen today like it did then.Check out the tribute restaurant nearby for before and after pics. The car dissapeared and has never been recovered

I don't know how much of the Dean Curse myth has been debunked. Snopes.com doesn't have a whole lot on it.
The claim that the motor was put into another car and caused another death seems less than credible when you look at the crashed shell, and imagine a working motor being in there, somewhere.
