Question What kind of oil??

Aloha - I am going to change my oil. I am waiting for the filter and valve cover gaskets (might as well check valve clearance when oil is out, right?) to arrive from our host. My question is, what oil should I use? I have 162,000+ (odo broken) miles. I have seen the high milage oils. Should I use these or just plain motor oil?
Any input will be appreciated.
Cheers,
Mike

Go with Castrol GTX 20w50. Lots of the board members here use it, me included. Probably don't want to use any synthetic if the car has been running dino oil, can lead to leaks. Good luck

If the engine is original (likely given the miles) I'd just put in 20W50 natural oil (dino oil) at least in the summer. There are numerous acceptable brands; I'm partial to Castrol GTX with the oil and filter being changed every 3000 miles. I assume you know there are two drain points and that you need a big drain pan. Do not overfill the tank when refilling. Add 10 quarts then start the engine, allow it to get to operating temp and check while running with the car level. Top off as required until the level is midway between the dipstick marks. Jim

For you, use Castrol GTX 25W/50 like the others suggest. For a turbo, I'd suggest synthetic.

I now use Castrol 20W50, but I used to use just Kendall 20W50 with great success. It's just harder to find than Castrol.
