Bell crank from Porsche.

i just recieved a brand new bell crank from Porsche. it has the white plastic bushings on it.

I also have a pair of the bronze bushings that i can install.

which bushings are better?

i would think the plastic ones would be better because they lower the coefficient of friction between the moving parts.

Definately use the bronze ones. The oil impregnated bronze bushings are the replacement upgrade.

If in doubt, here's a quote from Wayne in the PP catalog
"The accelerator bell crank bushings have a tendency to become corroded and worn out with age. The Weltmeister bell crank bushing kit contains a pair of bronze oil-impregnated bushings that are guaranteed to last longer than the original factory plastic ones." - page 13 under Shift Linkage & Pedals

How come the bronze bushings have a smaller ID than the plastic ones?

they both see the same shaft

is this normal?

what? that doesnt make any sense. they are plastic and plastic doesn't corrode.

I used the plastic ones last year for bell crank bushing replacement. These bushings do not see a tremendous amount of load and plastic would be fine. Pedal cluster bushings, that is different, only bronze ones make sense.

Reach in your bag of miscellaneous washers left over from 10 years of automotive works, find one about the right size, slap it on, and stop worrying about it.

Even the concourse judge won't look that hard.

On-ramp, since you are going with the plastic bushings, are you interested in selling the bronze bushing set?

Works for me. I'm in no hurry so cheap regular post or UPS ground should be OK. Please PM your mailing address and the total so I can mail you a check.
