Aluminum 911 oil tank

Just curious, what would be the interest for a 911 aluminum oil tank? I could add extra baffling, oil temp sensor, more volume, cooling fins,etc.... any ideas? Thanks, Don.

9146 tanks, works with all OEM fittings and filler necks...

Its up in the air right now, i need to see if it has any worth to the 911 crowd. A new factory tank goes for about $1200-$1400, so these would be about $700-$800, depending on options. After I get the prototype done, then i'll have a better idea of manufacturing time. These probably would have more interest to the racing crowd, and i wrong?

... i'm trying to get my hands on a 72 tank, i have the external oil filter peice,( i can CNC that out of billit aluminum), but would also need a complete set of lines, i can make lines with Coline fittings too. If anyone has a 72 tank and lines, let me know. With this kit, it would include peices to mold into the fender just like the original, door cover and all.

Thanks, Don.

Those look like very nice pieces! The one thought that I had though is that a stock 911 oil tank isn't very heavy, at least when empty. Still, every ounce counts to the auto-anorexia crowd.

Tanks look interesting.

FWIW, at one time Velious was making 914-6 tanks that were 2 cast pieces welded together. They are nice, but some improvements needed to be done to the design.

My thought is that if you are racing in a stock class that doesn't allow relocation of the oil tank out of the fender, then you can't change to an aluminum tank, either, you have to keep the steel tank.

If you are in a super class, you are going to move the tank forward to the smuggler's box.

This would seem to restrict your market to the uber-street enthusiast, which could sell a lot of tanks. Best of luck to you.

How much does the oil tank that goes into the extra heater box go for? I don't fully agree that the stock racing guys would have to keep the steel tanks, as long as its in the designated spot, its free game... Most racing rules are geared toward engine, chassis, suspension, and body mods to specify class. A stock 914-6 could run a Velios tank. Am I wrong?

Jim, the Velios 914-6 tank, which is what Patric motor sports is currently selling, weights at least 10lbs, and uses AN fittings. These 914-6 tanks are my answer to a far better Velios tank, and for those who don't want to spend over $800 for a factory new tank. If you want to keep all the factory peices, but save on the tank, its the only current way to go (besides used).

Thanks for the input, Don.
