Importance of roll bar

So I'm sitting here reading the Pelican Parts BBS and hear a boom. Look out the window to see this at the end of the driveway:

(well the picture was taken a couple minutes later, but you get the idea)

Called 911...went out side...no injuries. The guy just bought the Boxster yesterday.

Note that the left rear tire is resting on the roll bar. Holy cow!

Did the Boxster rear end the white car and the white car tried to reversee leap frogg the Boxster?

nostatic 05-27-2004 03:21 PM

no air bag deployment on the Boxster?

chuckw951 05-27-2004 03:23 PM

I'm not sure what happened. Traffic on the road in front of the house was really heavy as there was a wreck on the interstate, when that happens this road is used as a short cut. If I had to guess I'd say the boxter was stopped because of traffic ahead and the woman driving the while car tried to leapfrog it. But that doesn't make sense...the front end of the boxter is crunched and the backend of the white car is damaged. I guess the boxter went under the white car's bumper and lifted it over the windshield? Hmm.

One more pic

Nope.

nostatic 05-27-2004 03:31 PM

it looks to me like the Boxster rear ended the white car, and ran underneath it. Hard to believe the air bags didn't go off.

Someone was talking about putting a Boxster motor in a 911. There's your motor.

The surrounding look beautiful! Those huge houses with acre lots....you never see those here in Cali.....

Acre? that's a small lot where I'm from. Looking to build next summer on 7 wooded acres, the property is 1200' deep! Plenty of room for daddy's clubhouse! hehe ;)

Anyway I'd say that boxster owner is lucky to be alive.

Ok, can someone get a copy of the police report to find out what happened???

Most likely not. Interesting thursday afternoon. Again safety equipment is important though. What if the windshield/roll bar wasn't strong enough, this guy would have lost his head!!!

Wow. I can't image calling 911 with a bathtub of blood, technology makes a difference.

We have a 2 acre lot, cost $200K to build the house, probably $500K to sell good lord real estate is nuts.

Maybe you shoulda called "Boxter".

Ok Ill stop now. ;)

I have a full cage in my 86 Targa, and several times have been tempted to remove it. But with Atlanta traffic being as dangerous as it is, all it takes is a trip to work and I'm convinced that I'm better off leaving the cage right where it is!

Look, if it's not a 911 I'm not concerned about the details!

Though I did think about asking if the owner would sell the wheels...

Wil Ferch 05-28-2004 05:57 AM

Air bag would not be deployed if the resulting crash force ( direction ) is.....straight down !!!!! Holy smokes.

chuckw951, you live closer than I thought. I heard about that accident from a friend. Scary.

I'm guessing the driver's seat won't be salvageable.

You do in the older, more established areas. They (the developers) are systematically going thru and demolishing old houses on 1+ acre lots and putting in zero-lot-line subdivisions. There are still a few of these relics left where I live, but they're getting rarer. About 100 yards from my house is a 20 acre lot with a single farmhouse on it; if you squint you can see the RE developers circling overhead like buzzards.
