G-tech comparisons?

Never used one but was thinking it would be fun to do some G-tech comparisons of all the cool engine rebuilds and conversions popping up on Pelican.

I am thinking we could use our local waste plant scales and weigh our cars with a full tank of gas and then do 0-60 and 1/4 mile times and anything else interesting that can be documented. Add that data to a dynojet print out and we could build an awesome data base for future reference.

Anyone used the G-Tech and think this is a good idea?

They are a fun little toy. I don't do that much engine tweaking though, so after doing a few runs I was pretty much done with mine and ended up selling it to someone else on ebay. I never got the hp/torque stuff to work very well but the 1/4 mi times seemed pretty reliable and repeatable.

One thing that I never played with that I wish I had was the lateral acceleration measurements. It would be fun to also do some skid pad excercises with the cars.

I've got the 1st-generation G-Tech, and think it's a great toy.

For 0-60 and 1/4 miles, you don't even have to weigh your car. Only the HP estimate requires weight. I try to do 4-5 runs in opposite directions over the same road, then average the times. My best average is 13.3@106, and best single run is 12.9@can't remember. the meter might be a bit optomistic....

I borrowed Tyson's and couldn't get the damned thing to work accurately. I ended up relying on a chronograph watch. I suggest taking a stopwatch of some kind along as a backup.
