What's this type of hose clamp called?
 

Rather than hijack an existing thread, does anyone know of a source for this type of hose clamp? I seem to remember seeing a fastener like this on a clamp where you could adjust the diameter of the stainless band like you might do for a seatbelt, and then cinch it down.

A quick internet search didn't turn anything up other than the snap-release worm-type clamps, which won't do me any good.

Any ideas?

I think I saw it on the McMaster-Carr website. Check there.

That looks like a drum clamp. There are similar ones used in exhaust systems too. Burns Stainless carries them. www.burnsstainless.com

I know there are some other sources but can't think of one now.

What I need is a fixed size, and a buckle I can close down or release without any tools -- something like the fasteners that hold air cleaner covers together on American cars.

That is known as a soup can clamp. :D

McMaster has one that will work. But at $21 it seems 'too much clamp' for so little soup can. It's the kind of thing home and shop vacuums use to hold cannisters in place, too. I'd like to find the 85 cent solution, ultimately. Otherwise, I'll keep the screwdriver handy for the low-cost stainless hose clamp.

what diameter do you need to clamp?the surplus store for the Los Alamos National Labs has a ton of uber cool techno trinkets like that.Some of the stuff cost us tax payers millions of dollars and it can be yours for pennies.l`ve bought plenty of unobtanium widgets there in the past and they have lots of aerospace quality clamps and fasteners..,let me know what you need as l`m planning a trip up in the next week or two

Well, the range would be from 7.75-8.0 inches, basically -- outside circumference.

What are you clamping? the lips of two halves of a canister or a hose over a pipe?

If two halves of a canister (like a central vac setup) then it's as Tim T describes a V-clamp. The V configuration fits over the lip of each canister half. The realease is an "over center latch". Also how much pressure is being clamped?

It may also be found in catalogs as a "sanitary fittings". you can also get all kinds of fittings to use with it. They have them here: http://www.mcmaster.com/

Or you can get the web addresses of the vacuum cleaner co.s and others who you know use these clamsp and Email manf. dept. to see where they buy theirs -- they may not answer but I've been surprised who will when asked a question.

I think I have one sitting on the shelf in my shop. Its from some old 8 inch galvanized duct work that I dismanteled. Its yours if you want it.

The unit you are showing may be used to clamp the lid on a fiber drum. These folks sell fiber drums and lids (http://www.uline.com/ProductDetail.asp?model=S-9944). I would see if they would be able to source just the clamps for you.

I need 8-inch circumference, not diameter. I typed that wrong, before. (It's for a soup can.) But if that's what you've got, let me know.

What are you trying to do? Replace the worm clamp or the entire assembly?

It looks very much like something on a HVAC system and you should find something using the keyword "duct".

Try looking around Page 171 in the on-line McMaster Carr Catalog. If you can get a hard copy if it somewhere, flip through it looking for duct work, couplings and clamps. You should find what you need.
