Anyone with Aftermarket forced induction actively track their cars
I am always dialed into the ongoings of wydryd, rarelyl8 and juan ruiz but I was wondering the other day if an aftermarket turbo along the lines of the promotive bolt on for the 3.2 is suitable for the track without fear of detonation.
For the most part, it seems that the turbo'd 3.2 guys are running on the street or in quick bursts such as juan's drag racing. Anyone actively tracking their car with one of these systems (either bolt on or lowered compression) or know of someone that is? I'm also curious about the SoK's suitability for a DE/track car. thanks in advance, david (vicariously living through those with disposable income)

I've heard the problem is overheating. A 3.2's cooling system was not designed to shed the heat generated by forced induction. Short bursts on the street are fine (and fun), but prolonged boost will cook things in a hurry.

I suspected that was the case but I was hoping for some tech from someone with first hand experiences.
I wonder what the promotive or powerhaus people have to say regarding track use of their aftermarket turbo systems w/o lowered compression. db

Not sure if you are talking about the 3.2 specifically but I ran into a guy at Summit Point in WV that had a 993 with a SC. He said he drove the nuts off the car and spent alot of time at the track. I think he said he put over 50k on the car with the SC and no problems at all. The 993 is different than a 3.2 though.

This car has been hitting the track for several years now. The car (a late year SC) did tripple duty as Auto-X champ, road course track whore and daily driver. I lost track of the owner/car a couple of years ago when I moved down South.
I can tell you the ONLY reason this car stayed alive was the owner. He was very attentive to maintenance and the octane needs during various driving situations. It was and probably still is driven very hard. A real testiment to Porsche. -- Well I tried to post a picture but was not let in. I'll try later. The picture is of the engine compartment, a 3.0L with an SOK whipple.
