pic of Silver Bullet ricey start button

for what it`s worth l installed my first start button on a 280Z in 1990,before all the ricer hype.l love start buttons, they`re a much more satisfying solution to engaging the starter then the ol' key.l looked for an appropriate surplus aerospace button switch for quite some time, and l considered several arcade machine switches but the S2000 unit was such a smooth install it looks like it was born there..

Looks good! - did you 'need' to do this?

My ignition switch occasionally doesn't want to move to the start position and takes a few resets to off before moving against the spring into the start position. So this would be a way to avoid a new switch if the problem gets worse (or strands my wife once).

Pleae provide details on source and install (size hole, wiring tricks)

Is there anything to prevent you from starting while the engine is running?

That's a great, clean installation and I'd encourage everyone to personalize their cars in whatever way makes them happy.

But...

What's the big deal about separate starter buttons? Every time I read a car magazine, someone's exited about "hitting the start button on the new Lambomartinferrarentley" and how different this seems.

My grandfather's 1950 Pontiac had a separate button, as did almost every preWWII car. Seems to me that putting in the key and turning it, is just one step, instead of two. I like my '03 Tundra (and a growing number of other imports) that have the "bump and go" feature-- turn the key to "start" just briefly and let it go, while the electronics trigger the start circuit just long enough.

Maybe we should bring back chokes and manual ignition advance--that'll get the hacks really writing. Or maybe I'm already becoming the curmudgeon that I know I'll be someday.

thanks guys. You can save big $$$ by buying from http:// www.handa-accessories.com,a great import parts source.$35.00 !! and for the wiring instructions go to http://www.miata.net/garage/pushstart/ as for the mod being needed,no but l feel like a spaceman blasting off when l "ENGAGE "!!!with the starter button. l started with a totally stock, near concours 84 3.2 Carrera eight years ago and virtually NONE of the mods l`ve done to the car have been "needed".The 84 3.2 is a pretty nice car when it`s stock, and mint. The Porsche driving experience begins upon starting the vehicle, and this particular mod is a button pusher for me

How does this work - put in the key and turn and then hit the start button?? What about your flashers Or what was in the hole before that? My flashers are there.

I think this is very cool. Especially if you could eliminate the key - I guess thats a theft problem.

hey EW,yeah l just removed the flasher swith and installed the S2000 switch,it`s that simple. The S2000 start button is the perfect diameter but you`ll want to file off a couple of areas on the switch body for a perfect pressure fit in the dash.As for the hazard switch l plan to relocate to the right side of the steering column in an unused factory location. This procedure will require fabbing a harness to extend the factory one that won`t reach over there. The like on the original post provides enough info to get it wired and to do it right using a relay.l`ve got mine set so the key won`t start the car anymore.l like the theft protection of the steering lock though so l`m keeping all the other key functions

Having a seperate start switch makes sense for us car guys.

First, if you have a hi comp engine, sometimes its easier to get the engine turning over at speed, then adding spark.

And sometimes it's nice to crank the engine when you're working on it without ignition.
