Getting gasoline smell out of concrete?
I spilled some gas in my garage a while back and I can't get rid of the smell. I washed part of the floor with detergent but I'm not sure where else in the garage I might have spilt it.
Any tricks for detecting gas spill areas and removing it? Sorry if this is off topic but it is serious enough to make my garage unusable (for working on Porsches!) with the door closed. thanks, Chris

Smart answers aside, gas is a volatile liquid and I would expect it to dissapate with alot of air flow. Open the door and run a fan for a day would be a start.

I spilled this a few weeks ago. It is faint enough that I can't locate the spill with my nose but if the garage has been closed over night it really reeks. The gas I spilled on my wooden bench seems to have evaporated (i.e. you can't smell it).
Perhaps the lawn mower is leaking? -Chris

Perhaps the use of a cleaner that will break down the petroleum base. Maybe a Citric based cleaner. They selel the industrial strength stuff at Home Depot by the gallon for about $10.

Hey Chris...funny you should mention the lawnmower. I had a generator in the garage under the house. I started to get faint wiffs of gas but, could not pinpoint it. It got worse and worse. What i found was the gas was gravity feeding into the carb on the generator. There is a 15 gallon tank on top. The air filter was sponging the gas just enough so you could not find a leak. But, it was holding enough gas to stink us out.

The smell started after I fixed the lawn mower. I didn't use new gaskets on the carb so perhaps the gaskets are leaking. I'll make the lawn mower sleep outside tonight and see if that makes a difference.

Chris, I would seriously be looking for something leaking gas. I have spilled gas in my garage a number of times and the smell always dissipates in just a day or two.
