throttle doesn't work

all;
while i didn't go back to the beginning of time, i did run a search against the archives, but didn't turn up a similar thread... so here goes;
my throttle doesn't work. 'throttle' as in the lever to the left of the E-brake used to help the engine warm up. the car is relatively new to me and my first running & driving 911. (don't ask) i recall the PO saying that he had this fixed once. i unbolted the handbrake assy. but couldn't get enough slack to move it out of the way to see what's going on. not sure if i'm even on the right track. is this one of those character-building exercises ?
if you're _really_ nice i'll tell you how i rebushed the MFI bell crank withOUT removing anything more than the air cleaner. well... the engine WAS out of the car ;-)
any help greatly appreciated.
TIA
jerry
