Too bad it left the state. I'll call it a 14k car if paperwork is cool.

Car looks great...other than the not original for the year front splitter. Hard to tell much from internet pics. My question, as a buyer, would be why would somebody buy a car at Barrett/Jackson and then list it on ebay???

14K? You might want to double that.

Almost my ideal car (I'd prefer a 70/71 is signal orange, but silver is ok), but it is in too nice of shape since I'd want to mod it a bit.

Or knowledgable about early "S" values. This appears to be about a $35k car.

A 'totally impressive' S would probably fetch around $40k these days

Even if this were a T you'd be lucky to get it for $14k

Well, the plot thickens, (maybe). A quick check of the B.J. web site shows that this car did not sell at their Jan. 2000 Scottsdale auction, but it had a high bid of $20k. Hmmmm........

Or should I say, some 1970 911S coupe reached $20k and did not sell. There is no VIN# on their site, but it was the only '70 911S offered at the auction that year. Maybe the car changed hands privately after the auction for more $$, but the owner would not sell for $20k if the B.J. site is correct. ANd if it is, the ebay ad is not totally honest. Whatever, big surprise.

The car appears to have had a documented, full resto by an established shop, it is not cheap to put an early 911 in this condition, even if it started out decent.

And Paul, why ebay? Early "S"es get bid through the roof over there sometimes. Say what you will about ebay, but you cannot argue w/ the size of their worldwide audience. This car, however, could sell for good moolah to a very small audience at the earlySregistry, I would imagine.

20K for a car like that would be considered a steal over here in Europe

I'm not entirely impressed with Classic Showcase, unless they have changed their ways since selling my Norton 8-9 years ago.

I was high bidder on this S for about 40 minutes, but would want a thorough PPI before going over $20K.

I've seen a '70S needing *total* restoration bring nearly $20K locally, though one local broker a couple of weeks ago nabbed a one-owner '70S for $11K.

Does resetting the odometer to 0 in anyway take value away from the car...what is the true mileage?

I think it depends on the documentation. It certainly isn't a car of "pure provenance", but I bet it will get bid up pretty high. This could be a pig in a poke though...hard to say without seeing it in person.

I would say yes. It would for me. I have one of these things and the cars were virtually identical between '70-71, according to my reading. I am far from an expert.

The shoulder belts appear to be the inertia type, which was not stock for that year AFIK. A minor issue, and a preferred upgrade. But, if we are talking about this car reaching something over 30K (that was the subject of the thead, right?), then these things will be noticed.

The wheels don't appear to be deep 6s either. Again, not an expert on S's, but I thought the deep 6 belonged on the '70 S. I didn't see a pic of the front trunk, but the originality there along with the tool kit will play a part in the pricing. Small stuff, but when buying a collector car, small stuff matters. Especially at the big numbers.

This might be simply a nice driver, which is where mine will take place in the scheme of things. If drivers sell for more than 20K, mine is for sale.

Edit: I take that back about the wheels. The rear lenses don't appear to be silver trimmed like the fronts. Wrong choice there. Like I said, you can pick apart a car easily sitting at the computer, but everything must be spot on for the big money. Lack of history will hurt this car.

Now that is just a darn good looking car

I think ebay is great. Put it out there for the whole world to see and likely make a deal on it after the auction ends.

Just a Driver?

If this car went through a full restoration, then it is more than just a "driver." Zeke, if you want to sell your "S" for 20K, and it is in this condition, let's talk.

I'll even give you an option on my '73 VGE!!

If this car is as advertised, I would be surprised if it doesn't reach $30,000. But, the proof is in the pudding. We have a bit of time to wait and see.
