How to remove dog odors from leather interior?

No, it's not the Carerra that smells, it's a 2000 Toyota 4Runner I just bought. The PO had her dogs always accompany her wherever she went. It just smells like dog on the leather seats. I've tried washing the seats with mild soap, no luck. My clothes pick it up too. What's out there that will clean and remove the dog odor on the seats? After 3 months it still smells.

Try "Nature's Miracle," an enzymatic formula you can buy at the pet store.

Griot's has leather scented conditioner, but I'd use a cleaner first.

Clean the carpet with a real steam cleaner. Then wipe the seats down with a soap and water solution but really clean them with saddle soap. Follow the directions on the can. You won't believe how nice it will make the leather look.

A word of caution about some saddle soaps: they are not good for leather and will rot the stitching. Unless I know the soap is special, I will stick to the harmless stuff like Leatherique or Surflex (sp?). Start mild - you can always get more aggressive.

Prolly the carpets are the worst offender. Clean or replace......then BOMB the interior with "Ozium".....let off half a can and close it up for a couple of hours in the hot sun.

Thanks to all! I'll try the Nature's Miracle first, just got it today. If that doesn't work, the Ozium is next.

Wipe it down with Swepco and you'll never smell that dog smell again!

Vinegar is very good (and cheap) for neutralising pet odors. I use it on carpet. But I am not sure about leather.

Another suggestion is Febreeze for cars, its a relatively new product but removed smoke odors from brother's car.

Or you can buy the little smelly trees and hang them from the rear view mirror.
