911sc came with stainless heat echangers from the factory- but they were set up to collect the gases on the drivers side. From there , they went thru a catalytic converter, then into a single inlet/single outlet muffler. SSI's are made by a company in California. the loosely copied the oem set up that the 1974 911 had- with improvements. SSI tried to get the header pipes as equal as possible so scavenging and performance are superior to the Dansk or oem versions. The workmanship is superb (the welding is phenomenal!) and they cost about $900-1000 for the pair new. The increase in hp on your SC is about 15-20 depending on your muffler configuration (sport mufflers realize the most <2 in/2 out) over the oem smog set up. The SSI's are probably worth 5-8 hp over the Dansk or oem. The SSI's, Dansk, and oem "performance" heat exchangers (basically the 69-74 design) have one outlet under each chain housing which goes into a 2 inlet muffler
hope this answers what you are looking for btw- even used they seem to bring $600-750!

It can't have both SSIs & the original muffler. OE muffler is 1-in, SSI's require a 2 inlet muffler. SSIs eliminate the CAT (or premuffler in a Euro car), connenting directly to muffler inlets.

In other words, the only way your SC has SSIs is if the PO installed them. Your SC came from the factory with factory heat exchangers NOT like SSIs. SSIs are mirror images of each other, factory SC/Carrera heat exchangers are identical right to left. Here's a pic of what SSIs would look like:
![]() I didn't think stainless steel exchangers started appearing until the Carreras. My factory heat exchangers don't look SS, or at least someone forgot to tell them not to rust.
