Had valves adjusted - Now there is noise above 5k RPM?

What gives?

What kind of noise? Cat meow, bird chirp, tick-tick?

You must have one hell of a set of ears. I can't hear nothing but the roar of the exhaust on my 3.2 at 5k!

Mine does the same thing at any RPM, sounds like a symphony consisting of six cylinders. JK

Above 5k RPM I am supprised you can here anything. If a valve is adjusted to loose you would here it at idle.

"Now there is noise above 5k RPM"

...& this is a problem? My car is pretty noisy above 5000 too

Seriously, how loud is the 'rattling tin' noise? i.e. is it a oh-****-turn-off-the-car-immediately kind of noise or a hmmm-I-don't-remember-being-able-to-make-out-that-sound-before noise? Some posters have had valve adjustment nuts back off completely after an adjustment (& rattle around inside the chain covers) but I wouldn't expect a shop to make this mistake.

I heard it when I was driving really close to a wall on my left (window Open)

It was the first time I went over 4.5KRPM since Valves were adjusted.

(I'm testing a new chip) .....wait a sec, could it be the new (to me) chip?

Concrete walls have a tendency to intensify certain frequencies... by a HUGE degree. If this is otherwise inaudible I wouldn't worry too much.

So true, on the freeway in the fast lane the median wall has played tricks on me before. As soon as I change lanes the noises are normal again.

Maybe I'm just paranoid. I'll give it another spirited drive after work for the sake of research.

I would have my valves adjusted again. This time I would take my time and do it myself so it was done right.

Joe, what is the basis for this opinion? If he had loose valves you would be more likely to hear them at low rpm's as opposed to high rpms.

My guess either nothing or the tin around one of the heat exchangers which is the same as nothing.

How many miles on the engine?

Stretched chains, worn ramps will allow the tensioner to go nearly to full stop (even Carrrera Tensioners) and the chains do make a distinct noise although I'd suspect you'd recognize it for what it is.

Good luck,

Tom
