Is Permatune OEM for Porsche 911 '78?
I had to take my '77 911 to a referee due to engine change
into '78 3.0. FAILED me due to high CO on 15mph run and PERMATUNE CD is not listed as an aftermarket add-ons in their Executive Order EO:210. Only Mercedes and BMW are listed. Took it to my smog technician for adjustments, but passes without any adjustment, 1st gear, 15mph, rpm 2638, CO2 11.8, O2 3.9, HC 16, CO 0.82. NO 175. 2nd gear, 25mph, rpm 2539, CO2 11.9, O2 3.6, HC 12, CO 0.63, NO 171. Found out that the referee was using 2nd gear for 15mph test. I told the referee that no person who owns a 911 will drive 15mph in 2nd gear. But per their EMT, Emissions Measurement Test 2.5.5(d) ASM Gear Selection, Manual transmission, quote, 'Place the transmission in second gear unless the specified RPM range can not be achierved. Select first or thisrd only when necessary to maintain the specified EPM range. (For engine sizes less than or equal to 3.0L, keep RPM between 1500 RPM and 3000 RPM. For engine sizes greater than 3.0L, keep RPM between 1250 RPM and 2500 RPM. Always follow the BAR97 on-screen test prompts). Next step is to talk to the higher up. And that was my 3rd trip to the referee. Give me a Break....... Last edited by scarebus; 06-17-2004 at 03:28 PM.. |

Wanna know how many trips it took me?
Good news is you can go over his head (politely) and get somewhere. They do work with you, if you try.
