3.4 twin plug
could you elaborate on what is needed to build a 3.4 twin plug engine using a 3.2 as a base engine?

Are you starting with a 3.0 or a 3.2 Carrera?
Either way it will involve a 98mm P&C upgrade. If you are starting with a 3.0 you will also need to find a 74mm crank from a 3.2 Carrera. The above is an oversimplified response. Make sure to do your homework. There are a few Pelican's who have done similar engine builds. Search for '3.4' in posts from 'rdane', and 'ttweed', and 'ChrisBennet', and 'RLJ' Good luck! |

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$
Ask me how I know. I just got my 3.4 twin plugged car running and am driving it now. Lots of little extra in twin plugs. Custom wiring harness $500, 964 distributer $850, Andial splitter $600, Custom machining $1000 (not sure, this was with other machining), $400 custom chip to change advance. 3.4 P anc C's $3500. If you add all the other things that you want to do to an engine with rod bolts, new valve guides, springs, cams, etc. etc. easily you looking over $8000 without labor. |

If you are going to the trouble of the bigger P&Cs with twin plugs I not sure what you wouldn't go with the 3.5 P&Cs. Other then the ultimate size, the only other real difference is that you have to bore the case a bit. The cost difference would be extremely small and the displacement difference is sizable.
95mm bore = 3164 (kinda 3.2...) 98mm bore = 3367 (near 3.4...) 100mm bore = 3505 (yup, it be 3.5...) Wayne

The "why not go with" attitude will quickly double the price of your engine. You have to draw the line somewhere. I wanted to keep the motronic and intakes and the 3.4 was about the biggest I wanted to go leaving the bottom end alone. Changing the intakes to carbs, MFI, or other more aggressive induction will definetly add more along with wilder cams. But then you have a car that belongs on the track and not idleing aroung town. I haven't been able to drive my car other then straight to the shop for inspections and alignment. From what I felt, it was very nice. The biggest immediate change is the regeared 3rd, 4th, and 5th gear. Everyone with a G50 should think of this option first for a more pleasing car.

Kevin what exactly are you going to build? A 3.4 comes in many forms, not all of them need a twin plug setup.
