3.6 or stay 3.2ss
So ladies and gents I have a 74 with a 3.2ss-euro pistons, s cam, 46mm webers and I am thinking of doing a 3.6 swap into it. I have a local engine with all the paper work and recent top end work done. The car is used as a fun weekend car, track sometimes but just overall to enjoy and drive it. I'd say I easily will do 5-7k miles a year. So will the newer technology and 3.6 tq be worth it over the rev happy screamer?
The car is 2450lb wet, the 3.2ss has about 3500 miles since being built, transmission already rebuilt, car has 930 brakes all around and coilovers. I'm looking for opinions, and yes she is already a mutant so not original. |

way more torque, in theory should be more reliable and it will make more power- go for it!

Do it! No substitute for cubic inches and TORQUE. Plus you'll have a trouble free stock
motor that will turn your car into a rocket with MUCH BETTER gas mileage. You'll LOVE IT! On my '80SC I went from stock 3.0 to 3.2 Carrera and then to 3.6 twenty five years ago, have been delighted ever since. The 3.6 motor "fixed" or improved so many problem areas in the original design. Things like chain tensioners, sequential injection, ceramic exhaust port lining (reduces head temp 100deg), knock sensors, higher flow oil pump, etc, etc. Nothing like the feel when you nail it in second gear, it's nirvana!

One important consideration is oil coolers. I added an on engine cooler to my 964 3.6 and also have the Carrera fan cooled fender cooler. Never above 210deg even on 90 + deg days. You didn't mention which 3.6 you have, 964 or 993. On a 993, you'll need to retain the on engine oil filter due to hydraulic valve lifters, but on a 964 an oil cooler
ad on is quite easy.

A couple of items:
Research the correct flywheel for street use, if its too lightweight, the idle is hard to manage. Think about AN-6 size fuel lines also. Have FUN
