To Remove the A/C and Smog Pump or Not.
Well I just ordered a tune up kit and a bunch of stuff for my new ride. The car has been sitting for awhile and needs a major tune. Scooping out the engine compartment, it seems a little crampped, especially with the a/c compressor and the smog pump in there. I will never use the air, but will need the smog pump in 2 years when I have to smog it again. So my question is should I pull these out of the car when I do the tune up? How many of you still have your a/c compressor intach? I thought I could just remount the smog pump when its time to smog again? WIll this cause any problem to operate the car without the pump, any performance gain.....
Let me know your thoughts.! Thanks, Ed |
a/c is gone in mine. No need to keep that around. It's only heavy in a bad spot and always in the way.
I'd keep the smog pump all set up stock, I wouldn't want to prep the car for smog beyond a tuneup. George |
if the ac works keep it. the smog pump only gets in the way, other than that, it really doesnt do any harm. hell, even the ac compressor can be flipped out of the way. easy.

Try doing a search. There have been lots of threads on removing A/C, and smog pump.

If you remove you smog pump for two years then try and put it back on, it will likely be frozen and you'll have to buy a new one. And you know the smoggies will fail you if they get half a chance.

AC yes, smog pump why? it is not a HP bandit and until you become smog exempt ( if assembly bill AB2683 passes it will be never) it better be there, even in so cal
