Stainless Steel 911's?
In the June 2004 issue of Panorama, it is stated that there were 3 Stainless Steeled bodied 911's. Anyone have pictures or more information??

Really? Wow - never hear that one before. Sounds cool - like you could finally believe the "rust free" claim from the PO. Hopefully they had enough sense to hinge the doors at the roof. That way, you simply add a flux capacitor and *poof* instant time machine.

According to the article, 3 were made in earlier 1967. To bad the project was cancelled. It would have saved a bunch of cars from the iron oxided monster.

One of those is in the Museum of Technology in Munich if you want to check it out. It looks like a regular 911 but with no paint!!

Awesome car. Very cool. Stainless would make bodywork or welding on a set RS flares a little more difficult.

I remember this car! I saw it in 10 years ago when I went to Munich with my parents. I seem to remember it having a really remarkable number of miles on it. Maybe close to a million km with any body wear at all.
Or I could be imagining it... |

Hella Cool! Did they ever do an aluminium bodied 911?

That reminds me of when I visited the BMW museum in Munich. They had a couple of cars in there that were stainless steel as well but I don't recall the actual models. Maybe someone who has been there recently can remember...

The dull gleam of titanium would be a nice look too... and so would cutting the body wt. in half.

My only claim to Porsche fame--and surely a source of my 911-infatuation--is the fact that I lived across the street from one of those staineless steel Porsches in the late sixties / seventies. Every morning when I went to school that car would pull out of the garage.
