Fuel tank return fittings

I need some help with return fuel line connections. I have installed a 78 CIS tank in my 71 project. The motor is a 78SC with webers and SSIs. I have plumbed my supply lines from the tank using the non-threaded driver side connection off the tank.

My return line must connect from the hard line in the tunnel (clamped fitting) to a threaded connector on the pass. side of the tank. My calipers measure this fitting at 14mm OD on threads. I assume its a 1.25 or 1.5 mm pitch. The fitting is some type of compression fitting.

PET does not list a part number as its integral (crimp) with the tunnel fuel line. I am not running a high pressure pump (<5psi), so clamped fittings are more than adequate.

Can anyone verify these dimensions? Anyone know of a supplier for metric hose/hydraulic fittings? Anyone have a tub that can cut off the fittings?

any AN adapters
?

I am so close to starting this engine after 2 years. Someone help me please!!

Can't you just plug it? I didn't think you needed the return line for carbs.

Sorry for the quick and dirty suggestion, I want to see your car started up as well .

Sherman, I don't need to run a return line but I wanted a little more balanced pressure. I would love to just plug it. I can't seem to find a plug or fitting that match.

If it will help I'll get my '72 up on jackstands tonight and get some pics and as many measurements as possible of the fittings on my tank. I know the tanks are different but I have no idea what the differences are.

'RPMClassic' just listed a few tanks on the for sale section of the site, maybe he has something you can use. Pelican probably has the new fittings as well. I'd call and check with Eugene if I could not find the fitting on the Pelican site. Eugene has helped me with stuff I couldn't find a part number for in the past.

Thanks to COWTOWN, he fixed me up with the right adaptor for the 14mm fuel tank fitting. You need a 14mm fuel injector adaptor. Earls EAR-9894DBH is what you start with. Then you need a piece of 5/16 tube and a compression fitting. Bore the fitting out to 5/16 and place a 1/2" long piece of tube in, then the compression fitting. Works great on my system. I needed a few with the tank and the accumulator.

Cool! Now I am getting somewhere. I just found a local shop that has metric adaptors. John, thank you some much for the "diagram".

I looked up the fitting.

14 x 1.5 mm Female saginaw to AN6 male adaptor. Time to go shopping.

I just found a local shop that carries Earl's fittings. How cool. Looks like I am headed over at lunch. Score!! It just took a few extra phone calls.

Just want to reiterate what John said - that the Earl's fitting alone won't seal tightly, because the thread pitches are sligtly different. Be sure to insert the compression fitting (ferrule) for a good seal. Draining the tank a second time to fix this is a bummer.
