Broken spring in cab top

Went to close my power top and the front edge didn't latch down?? Upon closer inspection, I noticed that one of the front micro switches was not being activated due to a broken spring. Hopefully this is why the latches aren't drawing the top down.

Anyone know how difficult of a fix this is? Doesn't look too bad of a repair, but I could be wrong. Can I get a replacement spring? Or will I have to McGyver one myself?

Any input and/or advice would be appreciated.

Here's the good spring/latch: (The scribe is pointing at the lever of the micro switch)

Here's a shot of the one with the broken spring:

I have an 85 cab that has another problem than yours. However, I needed a hard to find part for my rear seats, and rather than replace a whole unit, I was able to purchase a $10 item from Parts Haven. The part arrived in about 4 days from California to Iowa. You may be able to talk to them about your spring if that is all you need.

They advertise in Panorama. Sorry, I can't give you any advise on replacing the spring. I'm always asking for advise rather than giving it. After a year of ownership learng new things contuously.

Hope this info. is helpful.

I had a power locking problem with my cab roof which was caused by power shorting/missing to the drivers side. I fixed it by taking power from the passenger side. Your roof seems to have a different problem but I bet you can solve it by "sharing" your one working microswitch.
My post on my repair is Needed: cab roof electrical schematic

Found used switches....hopefully they'll arrive soon.

Was accessing the switches difficult? Any tips?

It has been awhile since I've had a cab top apart but I think the only thing you have to remove is the metal plate that surrounds the switch's and the interior peice just inside the header . The tools that come to mind is a #1 phillips , 13mm wrench to remove guide pins and a door panel clip tool to remove the interior portion . There , that should be as clear as mud for you .

The trim/cover on the front of the roof is held by two phillips screws at each end and spring clips in the middle. The light is attached to the trim piece and not the roof structure. The micro switches can be accessed from the back once the trim is removed.

Just like Chris said, the panel was held by two screws and clips in the middle. The switch was held in place by two 7mm bolts. It was a simple unplug and swap. The top is back to good working order!!

Looks like it'll be an easy job to fix the old switch....project for another day.

Here are some pics of the process:

Clips:

Cover removed:

7mm bolts:

Very nice pictures and good result. Now don't reinstall your sun visors (they just get in the way) and enjoy the open top summer.
