Buddy of mine has a 82 911SC and he was in traffic and the car just shut of and would not restart. He asked me to help him figure the problem out. We could hear the fuel pump so we ruled that out, i have yet to check the pressure. I checked for a spark the car had no spark. I checked to see if the coil was getting power and it wasnt so he ordered a perma-tune box updated harness and a new coil. With that installed the car will start but it runs like crap, i checked the timing to see if we messed it up when we pulled the distributor for the new trigger wire and its good. I cant for the life of me figure out why it runs so rough or wont rev up very well. Please someone help us! :)

have you checked the points? Does that car even have points?

No points on the 83SC. You need to check the trigger wire from the dist to the CD box. Make sure its in good condition.

Did your friend get the correct coil for a CD unit? Have you measured R on the primary and secondary windings on the coils?

Do you get a fat blue spark or a feeble yellow one? Have you cleaned all the contacts to the 14pin connector, 3 slot fuse panel, CD box, coil and all grounds? Have you checked resistance of ALL plug wires and Beru connectors?

We got a new coil from perma-tune aswell and the updated harness with the new green trigger wire/ i tested the resitance and it looks good ive cleaned all connections in sight and no help at all, and the spark is huge

This car has CIS and it seems to be working as far as i can tell

Did you check the plugs? May be fouled. Do they need to be regapped for the Permatune?

You may have taken a wrong turn in Bedquilt....

I'll say fuel filter / fuel accumulator

test the fuel pressures when warm, CIS pumps are known to evolve in their decline. My SC would run OK until I revved it then it would starve and die. Their is a test for fuel delivery or just watch the presures as you rev it up.
May be just as easy to fit a friends feul pump in and see if that cures the issue.

I say ditto on the fuel filter.

i would hazard a guess that the problem is with the new kit/install.

i would try and use a known "good" piece of kit and go from there.

also, coils can be bad "new".

agree on the fuel filter, then again the pump may be clogged up as well and yet run.

I did clean regap the plugs to .035 the car has new plugs in it bosch platnium they have been in there for the past 3 months with no problems. i will change the fuel filter today and see about getting the fuel pressure checked. I did bench test the new coil before i put it on and it tested ok. I dont think i have a fuel issue i know the ignition was the cause if the initial problem but i guess stranger things have happened. im thinking i must have gone wrong somewhere:confused:

thats why i think it better to "borrow" some known good stock items. that'll tell you straight away if you messed up the install in some way.

If you do a search you will find there are a lot of things that you should check, including DME relay, plug wires, grounds, distributor, wiring, control pressures, CDI, fuel filter, fuel pump, air leaks, plugs and more.

Personally, I check electrical/inition items first (easier) and then move on to fuel related.

sc's dont have dme's??

Yeah there is no DME on this car thats what i checked first im going to go do some testing and will keep you informed thanks for all the great replys!:D please keep ideas coming!

platinum plugs are not so good with the CIS cars, they can foul really fast. i would check the spark plugs wires with a ohm meter. you need 3000 at the plug ends and 1000 ohms at the dist connector. the spark plug wires come apart easy, so you can test each component separate. i had a set of wires that had way bigger numbers than that and it would let the car run, but when things got hot, all went to schit.
