I MANAGED TO GET ROAD PAINT ON MY CAR. YOU KNOW THE PAINT THEY PUT ON THE CENTER LINES. WELL, I TRIED TO REMOVE IT WITH ROAD TAR AND WAX SOLVENT BUT THAT DIDNT WORK. ALSO I TRIED A POLISH PASTE BY HAND AND THAT DIDNT WORK. I DID A SEARCH BUT DIDNT GET MUCH HELP THERE FOR REMOVING IT FROM PAINTED SUFACES. DO I NEED TO TAKE MY CAR TO A PAINT SHOP? PLEASE HELP!

I'd just take it to a shop, if they screw it up it's on them.

If it were me, I would try 2000 grit wet-sanding. Polishes and even tar remover a little too gentle. After you wet sand, and assuming it works, you will need to polish the sanded areas really well to get the shine back and then apply wax.

Auto paint guy might be able to remove it with gentle solvent and/or rubbing compound.

BEAUTIFUL car, by the way.

Damn that is a lot.

That stuff is nasty ... I've had the same thing happen before. Enamel reducer might do the trick, but you'll need to repolish/wax when done. Laquer thinners would be too harsh. See what a paint shop might suggest to use.

Is the paint reflective? I may look cool at night - like racing stripes!

Just kidding... I'd take it to a shop too. Wax/tar remover may not work, as it could be a type of epoxy-paint especially designed for road surfaces.

Good luck!

At Lowes and Home Depot they have a product called "Goop" or "Goo". It's a liquid in a yellow can w/ red lettering. Whenever someone bangs their door on one of my cars/vans and leaves their paint on my vehicle. I use this product on a cotton rag. It takes it off w/ little effort.

NO!!! Don’t touch it.

Find out who is the highway paint contractor (private or state). They have to deal with this all the time. You can get good advice from them as to the kind of paint they use and the proper removal technique. Don’t let some one “try something out” on your paint.

Also, I suspect they are responsible unless you were using their cones as a chicane.

Best,
Grady

They will also probably have insurance that might cover cost of repair- I've had good luck with trucking companies and rocks hitting the windshield.

i am with grady on this one. i work for the highway dept, and i have the same stuff on my work truck it will not come off. the contractor will have insurance to take care of issues just like this. go back and see if the crew is still there. get the name. better to find the agency admining the job, i.e. caltrans, city agency whatever. file a claim with them. but if you were driving where you were not supposed to, then you are screwed. mountian view? was it a caltrans job?

I think road paint contains ground up glass beads to make it reflective. Be carefull not to rub that around too much. Nice looking car, hope it works out for you.

temo, yowza on the capital letters. i hear you buddy.
getting pictures is the best firststep. now get out there and find out who is running that job. those big stripping rigs have alot of lighting on them. the paint dries relatively quick, but dont get right up on it's butt. if it is caltrans, it will be an easy fight. that paint is designed to resist the elements, so it will be hell to get off your sweet ride.

I would try mineral spirits (no that is NOT moonshine!) first. If that doesn't work then use the distilled spirits!
