930 turbo shell good for a 73 RSR project?

Ive got the chance to buy a 930 shell and was wondering if it will make a good base for a 73 RSR replica? I am building a 3.3 turbo engine for the replica so i realise that will work well with the loom but im thinking more of things like using 11x15 fuchs. do they fit ok with the small trailing arms? also, is the front nose convrsion a real $hit job or relatively straight forward? Also (and this IS the last 'also'!) whats the difference in weight between a 69 shell (what i already have) and a 79 turbo shell?

Thanks

Andy, UK

This is an early 77 tub with 9x11x15 wheels, I'm pretty sure. The owner's name is Barrett, and I believe he fit the wheels without any problem.

the front coversion is a lot of work i guess. You have to replace the front pan of the car. Or go with rsr latches offcourse then you only need the early fenders. Nick Moss has an article on backdating an SC on DDK somewhere it shows how the front is done with replacing the front pan. Ask Jack O or Tyson about the traling arms.

11 x 15 wheels fit w/o problems. Been there done that. You should be aware that there is hardly any rubber left in that size. Yokohama 285/40-15 is not being made anymore and there are few pieces that can be bought from De Tomaso crowd.

Pirelli 315/35-15 (or something like that) are still being manufactured and are not so wide as you would believe.

There is a good article in Dec. 2003 '911 & Porsche World' (#117) on this. The guy modified the fenders instead of changing them. If you use RS style rubber bungs for the hood hold-down, you can avoid the whole long hood latching piece issue.

(I can scan the article for you, if you can't find the magazine)
